Welcome to Argyle House School
Argyle House School creates an environment that embraces each individual. Being the only family-run independent school in the North of England has allowed the school to develop a caring ethos, one which can be only reflected within a family itself.
The small size of our classes, and having only one class per year group, enables us to know our children as unique individuals, which allows us to help/guide them through their studies and development into adults.
Argyle House School has undergone a five year development plan, which has added extra subjects to its curriculum and new facilities for their delivery. Enhanced by the development which has taken place, Argyle House School still places great value on its small class sizes and family ethos.
Information Technology
The school now has three ICT suites; they contain the latest Microsoft programs and are all fully internet connected. Suites undergo upgrading every year. Each classroom has been fitted with interactive whiteboards and every classroom has an internet connection. All teachers have their own laptops which now allows children to e-mail teachers through our website.
Science
Argyle House School still teaches the three separate sciences, but this now takes place in a new laboratory, which contains some of the latest technology.
Drama
Drama was first introduced into the senior curriculum as a subject in 2005 and has gone from strength to strength. It is now a GCSE option. The school has a new, designated drama suite, which allows the creative side of students to flourish.
Art
Art has always played an important part in the curriculum at Argyle House School but did lack facilities. This has been addressed, by the building of a new art room to accommodate this subject and this has enabled the creation of a new/improved primary art room. Art will become a GCSE option from September 2009.
Physical Education
Physical Education is considered to be a vital subject in the development of a child at Argyle House School. Children enjoy three hours of sport a week in our new timetable. Among the new activities being introduced in 2009 are rowing, rock climbing, self-defence, skiing, boxasize and spinning.
Our Results Speak For Themselves

Head Teacher’s Statement
The school’s aim is to give every child the opportunity to learn and fully develop his/her abilities academically, socially and physically. Many factors contribute to this ethos: the size of the school, the family atmosphere created, and particularly the commitment of the teaching staff, who tutor children individually as a matter of course.
