Argyle House School prepares pupils not only for strong GCSE outcomes, but also for the exciting opportunities that await them beyond Year 11.
As a school that ends at 16, we place great importance on ensuring every pupil is fully supported as they take their next steps into sixth form, college or training. Our aim is to equip pupils with the confidence, clarity and ambition they need to thrive in new environments and continue their educational journey with purpose.
Work experience
All Year 11 pupils take part in a structured work experience programme designed to give them meaningful insight into the world of work.
These placements help pupils develop essential employability skills, understand workplace expectations and begin to explore potential career interests. The experience often plays a valuable role in shaping their choices for post‑16 study.
Careers guidance
Pupils benefit from a comprehensive careers programme that includes:
- Careers talks and themed workshops
- Presentations from visiting speakers across a range of industries
- Individual guidance interviews tailored to each pupil’s aspirations
These opportunities help pupils understand the breadth of pathways available to them and make informed decisions about their future.
Support for next steps
As pupils approach the end of Year 11, we provide personalised guidance to ensure they feel prepared and confident about moving on.
Support includes:
- One‑to‑one careers interviews
- Help with sixth form, college and apprenticeship applications
- Parental consultations to support decision‑making at home
- Post‑GCSE action plans outlining clear next steps
This structured approach ensures every pupil receives the advice and encouragement they need to choose the route that best suits their strengths, interests and ambitions.
Links with colleges and sixth forms
Argyle House School maintains strong relationships with a wide range of local sixth forms, colleges and training providers.
Because we do not offer our own sixth form, we are able to give impartial, pupil‑centred advice that focuses solely on what is right for each individual.
Pupils progress into a variety of academic, vocational and apprenticeship pathways, selecting environments that will challenge, inspire and support them in the next stage of their education.
Recent successes
In recent years, our pupils have achieved excellent GCSE results and moved successfully into further education, training and employment.
Former pupils continue to demonstrate ambition, resilience and commitment in their chosen fields, reflecting the strong foundations built during their time at Argyle House School.
