Year 2 Visit the Locomotion Museum

Year 2 pupils had an exciting trip to the Locomotion Museum in Shildon as part of their History topic on George Stephenson.
During the visit, the children explored the museum and observed how trains have evolved over time. They took part in a fascinating workshop where they learned about George Stephenson’s early life, his journey to becoming an engineer and the invention of the first locomotive.
One of the day's highlights was dressing up and re-enacting the historic first train journey from Stockton to Darlington—complete with lots of smiles and laughter! Pupils were also thrilled to see the famous Rocket up close.
After lunch, the adventure continued as they boarded a train to learn how steam is created and used to power locomotives.
To top off an already fantastic day, the children witnessed the delivery of a brand-new train set to be featured in the museum’s upcoming exhibition.
It was a memorable day full of discovery, history, and hands-on learning!
