Mental Health Week

This week at Argyle House School we have taken part in activities to support Mental Health Awareness Week.

In Prep School, pupils explored emotions through fun mindfulness tasks, movement games, and creative expression. They also created gratitude trees and personal self-care plans to help them recognise what makes them feel calm, happy, and supported.

Reception have been learning about emotions and feelings for Mental Health Awareness week. On Tuesday they looked at 'Pudsey's Pause' to help them manage our emotions when we feel overwhelmed. The children learnt to 'pause' to focus on their breathing and surroundings, 'spot' to identify their feelings and where they can feel them in their body and, finally, 'talk' to speak to a trusted adult about how they are feeling.

On Thursday, Reception took time to engage in a mindful activity, being still, closing their eyes, breathing and listening to gentle music. At the end of the week, we looked at being part of a community, discussing ways to be kind to others in school and at home.

Year 1 and 2 have been have been spending time learning and practicing yoga, which allowed them to relax and find some inner peace. Year 1 also took time to look at the movie 'Inside Out' and discussed how the different emotions affect each other in different ways.

In Seniors, form time and PSHE lessons focused on emotional wellbeing, resilience, and managing stress. Pupils practiced mindfulness techniques, discussed healthy ways to cope with challenges, and built their own strategies for self-care and positivity.

In Year 8 pupils have been working with Miss Pratt to create the 'S2B Positivitree.' Pupils each wrote down positive affirmations they wanted their peers to know to help them to stay positive. They are now proudly displayed in the classroom to remind each other of the amazing people they're growing into everyday!

Year 9 have spent time in the tutor group working through various mindfulness activities, including writing a letter to their future self and mindfulness and self-awareness.

On Thursday, the whole school wore green and raised money for the Mental Health Foundation, with an assembly highlighting the importance of kindness—to others and to ourselves!
