Reception Curriculum
Early Years foundation stage framework
The Reception curriculum at Argyle House School follows the statutory Early Years Foundation Stage Framework, which supports learning through play and recognises that every child develops in their own way. Children learn across seven key areas that build strong foundations for future learning.
The prime areas focus on communication and language, personal, social and emotional development, and physical development. These are complemented by the specific areas of literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design. Throughout the year, teachers monitor progress through observations, parent feedback and age appropriate assessments, with the Early Years Foundation Stage Profile completed in the summer term.

Natural science & outdoor learning
Although there is no formal forest school, outdoor learning takes place when it enriches a topic. This may include exploring materials in Science or learning about creation during RE. Children also explore habitats and the natural environment during visits to places such as the Rising Sun Country Park, Boldon Lodge and Washington Wetlands.
Our approach encourages pupils to work hard, try their best and be proud of their efforts. They learn to persevere, ask for help when needed and become increasingly confident and independent learners.
