A nurturing, family‑centred approach defines pastoral care at Argyle House School, where every pupil is known, valued and supported as an individual.

Our close‑knit community is built on kindness and genuine care, allowing pupils to feel safe, confident and ready to thrive both academically and personally.

Pastoral care at Argyle House School

Argyle House School is guided by strong family values, and this ethos shapes every aspect of our pastoral care. Because our community is small, warm and deeply connected, every child is known by name and understood by the whole staff team. Pupils are cared for as if they are part of the school family, creating an environment where they feel secure, respected and encouraged to be themselves.

This family atmosphere helps pupils develop self‑confidence, independence and a strong sense of belonging. Staff take time to understand each child’s personality, strengths and challenges, ensuring that support is always thoughtful, sensitive and tailored.

How we support our pupils

Our pastoral system is designed to ensure that every child has someone they can turn to at any time. While pupils are welcome to approach any member of staff for help or advice, we also have dedicated pastoral specialists who oversee wellbeing and provide additional guidance when needed.

Staff are readily available throughout the school day for informal conversations, reassurance or advice.

  • Pupils are encouraged to speak openly about concerns, knowing they will be listened to with empathy and respect.
  • Support is proactive as well as responsive, helping pupils build resilience, manage challenges and celebrate successes.
  • This approach ensures that pastoral care is not an add‑on, but a natural and integral part of daily school life.

Our pastoral and safeguarding team

To ensure the highest standards of care, Argyle House School has a trained and experienced pastoral and safeguarding team:

  • Designated Safeguarding Lead: Mrs McIntosh
  • Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads: Mr Sample, Mrs White & Mrs Blackmore
  • Designated Safeguarding Lead for EYFS: Mrs McIntosh

These staff members work closely with pupils, parents and teachers to ensure that every child feels supported, protected and able to flourish.

Working in partnership with families

We believe that strong relationships between home and school are essential to effective pastoral care. Parents are encouraged to contact us whenever they have concerns or questions, and staff are always available for conversations, meetings or guidance.

This partnership ensures that pupils receive consistent support and that their wellbeing remains at the heart of everything we do.
