Giving children a genuine voice helps them develop confidence, leadership skills and a strong sense of responsibility.
Supporting active roles in school life
We believe that pupils should play an active role in shaping their school community.
We also encourage leadership through a range of additional roles. Older pupils are nominated by their peers to take on positions such as Sports Captains and House Captains. These roles allow them to support younger pupils, help organise activities and act as positive role models across the school.
By promoting pupil voice in this way, we empower our learners to contribute, collaborate and take pride in being active members of the school community.
The School Council
Our School Council is led by senior pupils who work together to represent the views of their classmates. They meet regularly to discuss ideas, raise suggestions and help make decisions that improve school life for everyone. This gives pupils a real opportunity to influence areas that matter to them, from clubs and events to aspects of the learning environment.
At the start of each year, pupils have the chance to stand for School Council. They prepare short speeches and the elections take place through an anonymous vote. The Council meets regularly and shares ideas about school improvements, clubs and ways to enhance daily life.
The School Council plays an important role in shaping the clubs on offer. We regularly ask pupils about the activities they would like to see, ensuring the programme reflects their interests and encourages them to try something new each term.
