The House System is a long‑standing and much‑loved part of life at Argyle House School.
Our four houses Barnes, Herrington, Mowbray and Roker are named after the Victorian parks of Sunderland, all just a short distance from the school. Each house reflects a sense of local pride, heritage and community spirit.
Purpose of the House System
The House System exists to bring pupils together, encourage teamwork and create opportunities to contribute to school life in a meaningful way. It helps to:
- Promote friendly competition
- Build leadership skills
- Strengthen relationships across year groups
- Encourage pupils to support charities and engage with the local community
Children are allocated a house at random, with the exception that siblings join the same house to ensure a shared sense of belonging at home and at school.
Life in our houses
Our houses play a central role in creating the close‑knit feel that Argyle House is known for. Throughout the year, pupils take part in a variety of house competitions, charity events and whole‑school activities that bring everyone together. These moments give children plenty of chances to work as part of a team, challenge themselves and step into leadership roles.
Pupils take great pride in earning points for their house, celebrating achievements big and small. Just as importantly, they show genuine enthusiasm for one another’s success. This spirit of encouragement and mutual support is at the heart of our community.
